Creating Flowers in the Style of Georgia O'Keefe

Eleven students painted flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe in a VSA class held at the Marian Center for Nonprofits in Milwaukee, Feb. 26 - March 18.

Students began by creating large petal and leaf templates in cardboard. Then they placed a circle where the center of flower would be, and sketched the petals and leaves, with some overlapping. Next, the students selected colors for the flower and background and painted their artwork using watercolor pigment to darken centers or edges (pictured). Oil pastels were also added to create “veins” in the leaves or centers of flowers. Pictured below, four students proudly display their finished flowers.
