:
"...inspires me." " ...is my passion in life."
"...excites me." "...has become my life and not only a way
of expression." "...is always there for me."
"...motivates me to be the best I can be." "...is a good
channel for my creativity." "...brings a sense of self worth,
confidence and acceptance." These are the words of the 2006 VSA
arts of Wisconsin award and honorable mention recipients. VSA held its annual
Awards Ceremony March 25 at the Milwaukee Public Museum.
Five awards and
five honorable mentions for each of the Adult and Children's Art Collections
were selected from among approximately 300 entries submitted in response to
the annual
VSA Call for Art. Artists' submissions were reviewed by a jury of art professionals
who looked for originality, creativity and craftsmanship. The five award-winning
pieces for each collection were added to VSA's Traveling Exhibits in May
for display throughout the state at corporations, libraries, museums and galleries.
Each adult whose artwork was chosen for an award received $500; adult honorable
mentions received $150. The children’s award recipients (ages 5-15) were
each given $100 gift certificates for art supplies; honorable mentions received
$50 gift certificates.
