Room - VSA Day

WHO:
- VSA Choirs from around the state, made up of individuals with
and without disabilities
- High school marching bands members from around
the state who partner with students with
disabilities. Bands in the 2007 VSA Day were from Cassville, Cuba City,
DeForest, Oregon, Sun Prairie, Syble Hopp-DePere, Verona and Wausau
East.
- Mike Leckrone and the UW Marching Band
WHAT:
Annual VSA Day at Camp Randall Stadium
- VSA Choir members with and without disabilities take the field
before a UW football game to perform the National Anthem in American
Sign
Language
- High school marching band members and students with disabilities
join the UW Marching Band on the field at halftime to perform for
80,000 fans.
WHEN: 2008 date TBD
WHERE: Camp Randall Stadium, Madison
WHY: This performance opportunity
for high school students and adults with and without disabilities
was created more than 20 years ago by Mike Leckrone, VSA Board member
and UW Marching Band Director.
Mike Leckrone: "...one of the biggest
thrills of the year is seeing those students enjoy the experience
of performing in front of an audience that is appreciative. That
is very satisfying. That sense of accomplishment, there's just a
joyous attitude that just makes you feel good."
