I had the privilege of seeing his language development take off and soar as a result of these music sessions! His [family] was absolutely astounded at the progress he made as a result of the music class.

Leah Wyngard, Tanner Elementary School, Kaukauna, 2009, music residency

VSA Wisconsin’s nationally recognized Early Childhood program began in 1992 and serves children ages 2–6. The goals of the program are:

  • Enhance early learning skills through interactive and process-oriented arts activities
  • Promote full student participation in the arts
  • Strengthen early childhood educators' abilities to utilize the arts to support the development of children of all abilities
  • Ensure the value of the arts as an essential learning tool

Throughout this residency, I have learned more about development, differentiation, and have gained a greater appreciation for art as a teaching tool.

Carrie Scheldroup, St.Francis Children's Center - Miliwaukee, 2009, visual art residency

Led by professional teaching artists, these 10 week programs actively engage children in multi-sensory activities in music, drama, visual art or creative movement. Activities promote creative expression, peer interaction, language development, as well as other early learning skills.

An optional in-service workshop is available to reinforce key strategies used in the residency.
