Steve Stricker awarded the 2007 Award for Excellence in Leadership by VSA arts national office

Steve Stricker accepts national VSA award from VSA arts vice president Jim ModrickThe 2007 VSA arts Excellence in Leadership Award was presented to Steve Stricker, Madison area PGA Tour pro golfer who lends his name and time to VSA arts of Wisconsin each year to help raise funds and awareness for the VSA Art Center. The national award goes to an individual who has made an exemplary contribution or has been an outstanding champion for VSA. Jim Modrick, national VSA arts vice president, traveled from Washington, D.C., to present Stricker with the award (pictured). The award plaque featured nationally recognized artwork by Wisconsin artist Christoph Schumacher of Ixonia.

In the first 10 years of the VSA arts of Wisconsin Stricker Golf Exhibition, more than $425,000 has been raised to support the VSA Art Center. The staff of VSA arts of Wisconsin is very excited to join the national office in recognizing Steve's efforts for the past 10 years on behalf of Wisconsin artists with disabilities. While the majority of the money raised by Steve for VSA has come from the golf exhibition, Steve has also designated VSA arts of Wisconsin as his charity of choice when he has played in the US Bank Open Celebrity Shootout. His winnings have ranged from $2,500 to $10,000 each year.

"Steve is a ‘home grown’ professional golfer who became involved with VSA arts of Wisconsin 10 years ago, just as his career began to draw national attention," says Kathie Wagner, president of VSA arts of Wisconsin. "While some athletes choose to support organizations related to their field, Steve wanted to make a difference in another arena," she says. "Steve’s dedication continues to touch the lives of individuals with disabilities and it is clear that this event has great meaning for him. He is a champion!"
